MEC Mase Manopole has taken the lead in the Northern Cape's targeted response to the African Armyworm outbreak

MEC Mase Manopole has taken the lead in the Northern Cape's targeted response to the African Armyworm outbreak by officially handing over essential resources and conducting a practical demonstration at Greenpoint Commonage Farm. This initiative, in partnership with the National Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, reflects a coordinated effort to protect the province's agricultural sector.

Valued at R1.3 million, the intervention highlights the department's dedication to supporting farmers and securing food production. The resources distributed to affected farmers include pesticides such as Decis and Sumi Alpha, sprayers for both backpack and bakkie use, and personal protective equipment like overalls, masks, and goggles.

In addition to the supplies, farmers received hands-on training in safe pesticide application, pest identification, and integrated pest management techniques, ensuring that they are well-equipped to tackle the outbreak effectively.

MEC Manopole reaffirmed the province's preparedness to address the situation, stating that the government recognises the serious challenges posed by the outbreak and is actively implementing measures to minimise its impact. The department, with support from national partners, continues to work closely with local farmers to contain the spread of the African Armyworm and protect crop yields across the region.
