Zamani Saul has been re-elected unopposed as the African National Congress (ANC) provincial chairperson in the Northern Cape, securing a third term at the helm of the province's leadership. The rest of the top five ANC leadership in the province remains unchanged since 2021, with Bentley Vass continuing as deputy provincial chairperson, Deshi Ngxanga as provincial secretary, Maruping Lekwene as provincial deputy secretary, and Fufe Makatong as treasurer.
While the leadership structure signals continuity and internal stability, Saul acknowledged the lack of gender parity in the top five. He committed to addressing this imbalance through appointments to the broader Provincial Executive Committee (PEC), emphasising that gender equality will be a key focus going forward. Saul assured that the ANC in the province will strictly comply with the party's 50/50 gender representation requirement. He added that the province has strong women capable of leadership roles and their inclusion is both valued and necessary.
Saul described the uncontested re-election of the leadership team as a reflection of unity within the provincial ANC. He pointed out that during the party's last national conference, the secretary-general's report identified the Northern Cape as the most united ANC province in the country. According to Saul, this consistency and cohesion demonstrate that the province remains solid with no significant internal divisions.
Despite this internal unity, the ANC in the Northern Cape received only 49 percent of the vote in the most recent national elections. Saul attributed the decline in support largely to ongoing electricity issues. He said that the party's internal research found that widespread load-shedding contributed significantly to voter dissatisfaction, noting that approximately 95 percent of households in the province rely on the Eskom grid. He suggested that power outages had discouraged people from going out to vote.
